IUF Personal Data Protection Policy

This Personal Data Protection Policy defines and informs you of how, in compliance with the regulations on personal data and in particular Regulation (EU) 2016/679 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 27 April 2016 (GDPR), the The International Union of Food, Agricultural, Hotel, Restaurant, Catering, Tobacco and Allied Workers’ Associations (IUF) uses and protects the information you provide and the data collected, if any, when you use the website www.iuf.org.

The IUF may update or amend this policy at any time, in particular to comply with any legislative, regulatory, judicial or technological developments. In such a case, the date of last update will be clearly recorded at the beginning of this policy. Any changes will take effect as soon as they are posted online. The IUF invites you to consult this Personal Data Protection Policy each time you visit the website so that you are aware of the latest version, which is permanently accessible on the website.

Personal Data

In general, you can browse the website without providing any personal information. You are under no obligation to provide any information to the IUF.

However, refusing to do so may limit your access to certain information or services that you have requested. In some cases, the IUF may ask you to provide your surname, first name, e-mail address, telephone number, country, etc. (hereinafter your “personal data”). By providing this information, you expressly agree that the IUF may process it for the purposes indicated in point 2 below.

In accordance with the regulations on personal data, the IUF informs you of the following points:

    1. Identity of the controller
      The controller is the International Union of Food, Agricultural, Hotel, Restaurant, Catering, Tobacco and Allied Workers’ Associations (IUF), with its registered office at 8, Rampe du Pont-Rouge, 1213 Petit-Lancy, GE, Switzerland.
    2. Purpose of data processing
      The IUF may process your personal data in order to provide you with the information or services that you have requested, including:
      a) newsletters
      b) campaigns
      c) access to its documents in its “members login”
      d) statutory or non-statutory event(s) related to the IUF
    3. Recipients
      The IUF is the only recipient of your personal data. Whether in individual or aggregate format, your personal data are never passed on to any third party, with the exception of subcontractors used by the IUF for specific purposes, who may be sent your data only to the extent necessary for carrying out their tasks (graphics, document printing, etc.). Neither the IUF nor any of its subcontractors sell the personal data that the IUF collects (see point 7 below).
    4. Data retention period
      Your personal data (surname, first name, postal address, telephone numbers, e-mail addresses, access rights to “members login”) are stored by the IUF in a database for a maximum of 10 years.You can exercise your online rights and freedoms at any time by contacting the IUF by post or by e-mail (see point 5).However, please note that we may keep a record of your data for archiving purposes.
    5. Online rights and freedoms
      You have the following rights regarding your personal data, which you can exercise by writing to us at the postal address mentioned in point 1 or by e-mail at privacy@iuf.org:

      (a) Right to access and communication of data
      You have the right to access personal data concerning you. However, due to the obligation of the IUF to secure and protect the personal data that it processes, please note that your request will only be processed if you provide proof of your identity in the form of a scanned copy of your valid identity document. The IUF informs you that it will be entitled, if necessary, to reject patently abusive requests (in terms of their number or their repetitive or automatic nature).(b) Right to correction and deletion of data
      Under this right, the regulation entitles you to request the correction, updating or deletion of data concerning you that prove to be inaccurate, erroneous, incomplete or obsolete.

      (c) Right to refuse
      The exercise of this right is only possible in one of the following two circumstances:

      • on the basis of legitimate and compelling reasons; or
      • to prevent the data collected from being used for marketing purposes.

      We draw your attention to the fact that the collection and processing of certain data is essential for delivering news and/or campaigns, documents for events and access to certain services.

      Consequently, exercising your right to refuse may prevent you from benefiting from these services.

    6. Response times
      The IUF undertakes to respond to your request for access, correction or refusal or any other additional request for information within a reasonable period of time, which may not exceed one month from receipt of your request.
    7. Retention of personal data
      Data that you provide on our website are stored in the IUF on a server located at the IUF headquarters in Geneva.
    8. Complaining to the competent authority
      If you consider that the IUF is not fulfilling its obligations with regard to your personal data, you may make a complaint or request to the competent authority.
